Event Report
Under the aegis of IQAC, the Department of Life Sciences & Allied Health Sciences
in collaboration with department of Physical Sciences, SBBSU organized an
extension activity for the students to sensitize them towards the most vulnerable group
of our society including orphans and older citizens staying in old age home.
Under this activity, a group of about 30 students (15 students from each department)
visited an orphanage “Guru Nanak Anath Ashram and Old Age Home & Charitable
Society, Budhiana, Kapoor Pind, Jalandhar on 21 st March 2024.
The visit was headed by two faculty members Ms. Meena and Ms. Arwinder Kaur
from Life Sciences and Physical Sciences departments respectively.
The primary objective of the visit was to expose students to the living conditions,
challenges and needs of the residents of the anath asharam and old age home.
By interacting with them students were expected to gain a deeper understanding of the
plight of the most vulnerable group of society and develop empathy and compassion
towards them.
The student reached there at about 10:30 AM. Firstly, they interacted with all
residents and listened to their life stories and experiences. This allowed them to
empathize with the challenges faced by them and understand their perspectives.
The students also volunteered to assist with tasks such as serving meals, sweets and
providing companionship to the residents. This hands-on experience enabled them to
connect with them on a personal level and witness the impact of their actions.
The second objective of the visit was to arrange funds for charity. Students collected
on their own and donated an amount of Rs. 7500/- to Anath ashram manager.
Engaging students in such activities nurtures essential values and skills that contribute
to their holistic development.
The students came back to the university at about 3:30 PM. Overall, the visit was a
meaningful and transformative experience for the students and provided them with
valuable insights into the lives of the most vulnerable groups in our society.
By sensitizing them to the plight of others, the visit contributed to their personal and
social development, fostering a spirit of compassion and social responsibility. It is
hoped that the lessons learned from this experience will inspire students to become
agents of positive change in their communities.
